NASB | John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and it is your will to practice the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks what it natural to him, for he is a liar and the father of lies and half-truths. |
Bible Question: As I read this verse (John 8:44) last night, there was one line that stood out to me. It said, "There is no truth in him." What does that mean? Is it saying that it's not even possible for Satan to tell the truth or that he never does or what? I mean I know the devil is a liar and the father of lies, but does he ever tell the truth? What if it's a bad truth? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Nathan... There is one thing that Scripture says is more deceitful than any thing else, and that is the human heart (Jeremiah 17:9). Now consider: Is lying the contradiction of all things that are truthful? Is it not also possible to lie by misdirection of the truth or misapplication? Go back and read the temptation of Christ in Matthew 4 and Luke 4. Consider the things that the devil said to our Lord. You can think this through for yourself. In Him, Doc |
