Subject: Is Jesus the source? |
Bible Note: Thanks, Ray (and others who answered)... One of my study Bibles is called the Companion Study Bible, by Kregel Publications, (c)1990. The margin notes for these verses indicate that the first phrase of v.38 is connected with the last part of v.37. "If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and let him drink that believes on Me. According as the Scripture has said [concerning Me], 'Out of His innermost being (which is to say, out of Him) will flow rivers of living water." In no way am I trying to be sarcastic, but I would like to point out that even a very big and highly motivated well could scarcely be considered a river. Jesus Christ is the river or fountain of living waters. Those who thirst and drink of (i.e., believe on) Him become wells of living water. In other words, they are essentially conduits of the Spirit of Christ (which is the Holy Spirit). I trust that my struggles to articulate my position have not been offensive to all who have stated positions that are different than mine. Kind regards to all, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |
