Bible Question: John 6 tells the story of the feeding of the 5000. Verse 4, "the Passover..was near," seems out of place in that story. Why did the author include it? |
Bible Answer: kjmath13, Similar to the mention of Passover in John 6, see John 7: 2 mention of the feast of Tabernacles, also known as the feast of Booths. During this feast at night the the temple was brightly illuminated with lights and in the mornings of the feast there was a water libation ceremony in which a vessel of water was brought from the pool of Siloam and was pored out before the altar of burnt offerings and the water ran down the steps of the temple. So in John 7 we see Jesus preaching about rivers of living water (John 7:37f) and Jesus calling himself the "light of the world in John 8:12 and in John 9:1-41. Emmaus |
