AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 6:4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was approaching. [Ex 12:1-36] |
Bible Question: John 6 tells the story of the feeding of the 5000. Verse 4, "the Passover..was near," seems out of place in that story. Why did the author include it? |
Bible Answer: Aslo tied into the Passover and Jesus's fulfilment of it and the memorial meal of that deliverance acoomplished on the cross, is John 19:36. None of Jesus' bones are broken, a reference to Exodus 12:46. Jesus, the lamb of God (John 1:29), slaughtered for our sins is an umblemished lamb without any broken bones even after his death for us. So he is a fit lamb for the liturgical memorial feast of Holy Communion (John 6:53), even as an unblemished lamb with no broken bones was required for the Passover memorial feast of the Jews ((Exodus 12:5; Numbers 9:11-12. |
