Bible Question: What is the difference of Bread of life and Bread of Heaven (John 6:51) |
Bible Answer: Santee01 - The pronouncement of John 6:51 reiterates our Lord's statements in vss. 33, 35, 47, and 48. In vs. 51 Jesus adds the prophetic statement, "the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world," which refers to His impending sacrifice upon the cross. In all these verses, Jesus' reference is to Himself, e.g. the bread of life, the bread of God, the bread of heaven. ..... By the way, this is the first of the seven great "I AM" statements recorded in John's gospel. Here are all seven of them, followed by the chapter and verse where they may be found in the fourth gospel. I AM [1] the bread of life (6:35); [2] the light of the world (8:12); [3] the gate (10:7,9); [4] the good shepherd (10:11,14; [5] the resurrection and the life (11:25; [6] the way, the truth, and the life (14:6); [7] the true vine (15:1,5). --Hank |
