Bible Question: There are many debates over the Baptism subject.. but why is it mentioned many times relating to the holy ghost for example acts 1:5 "For john truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the holy ghost" many people here are telling me you dont need to be baptised to be saved but why is it always mentioned? and why did jesus say himself to get baptized and believe? nobody has given me a concrete answer yet. Why did jesus himself say it in john 3: 3-7 and mark 16:16 nobody has given a real explanation |
Bible Answer: I believe that Jesus gave two 'ordainances', (for lack of a better word, the correct word escapes me right now) one was to observe communion and the other was water baptism. Both are for the purpose (although not solely) of the public show of accceptance of Christ Jesus as Savior. Matt.10:32 says "If anyone acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will openly acknowledge that person before my Father in Heaven". Water baptism, I don't think, is absolutely neccessary for entry into Heaven because the 'righteous thief' on the cross was allowed into Heaven. I think in John 3:5 where Jesus says "The truth is, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit" I think that refers to the physical birth (as when we are born from the womb-water) and the spiritual birth (as when we accept Jesus as Lord). In Acts 16:30-31 the jailor falls before Paul and Silas and it reads "He brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They replied, "Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved along with your entire household" No other provisions are given for being saved. Entry into Heaven requires you to believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior and to be saved. Jesus said to be water baptised but it was for the purpose of recognizing Him publicly not as a prerequisite for entry into Heaven. |
