Bible Question:
John 21:15-17 Nowadays, there are pastors ONLY engage in teaching in seminaries and giving sermons on the pulpits. Is "pastor" equivalent to "shepherd"? If so, it seems to me that much of the responsibility that required of a pastor has been ignored or tend to be specialized (division of labour). What are the criteria for pastoral ordination? Thanks for your input and insight. Shalom Azure |
Bible Answer: Your statement seems to include to wide on scope of the reality I know and have experiended. Perhaps this is more of an issue in larger cities like Hong Kong, and others in the US. In the three seminaries I ahve been involved in there were very few pastors involved in teaching, as these positions were for those proffessors who were called by God to teach. May I disagree with you, but gently, that many pastors do labor and often many more hours are spent in sherherding than most have any idea. As a pastor there is no such thing as a day off, or a night you can go to sleep knowing you won't be awakened by one of the sheep needing you. Every denomination, and church has it's own criteria for ordination. I was orignally ordained by a Souther baptist church wher I first became pastor. When I became an Americian Baptist church pastor I had to go into a very involved period of writing papers on my theology od many areas, and a formal review by several ministers and the Area Minister. These meetings lasted not quite a year. Then my ordination was recognized. In a Conservative Baptist Church I served a pastor they took my ordination as it was. There is always more to the pastors job and calling then most people even think of. Don't judge so harshly, remember those who serve you as pastors in prayer and give encouragement as often as you can. Blessings. justme |
