Subject: Why more fish? |
Bible Note: Hi Mommapbs, You and Emmaus have benefitted from studying something that you may not find a definitive answer for. It's fun to "dig" even if we don't find always find anything. I believe my daughter in college majoring in anthropology can relate to that. I'd like to offer my observations as well. John 21:15 has the words "Tend My lambs" in the NASB and "Feed my lambs" in the NKJ. I would think that the "feed" my lambs would give credence to the idea that Jesus was pointing to the fish that were brought to shore and to the fire. Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love Me more than these?" [the fish]. The other observation that I made was that John 21:5 in the NASB has Jesus saying, "Children, you do not have any fish, do you?" The NKJ says, "Children, have you any food?" And of course it was in relation to their fishing for food. With that in mind, the application for my mind is "Do I love Christ more than fishing (for eating or recreation)?" "Do I love Christ more than my job?" "Do I love Christ more than I love food?" John 21:17, "Do you love Me?/" Matthew 6:24, "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God/ and mammon." John 15:5, "for apart from Me/ you can do nothing." We abide in the Vine and we work for His kingdom. Matthew 6:13, "For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen." I trust that Peter felt the forgiveness for his denial when he worked for His kingdom. I trust that he could apply Isaiah 44:28 to his life and think of himself as a shepherd also. Isaiah 44:28, NKJ, "Who says of Cyrus, 'He is My shepherd, And he shall perform all My pleasure, Saying to Jerusalem, "You shall be built," And to the temple, "Your foundation shall be laid."" Thanks for your question, mommapbs. From the heart, Ray |
