Bible Question:
What kind of wine did Jesus turn the water into. would it make a person drunk? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Pastorsrun, Are you making Jesus out to be a "bootlegger"?? Two thousand years ago in Israel, the water was so bad (needed purification), that they would use a little bit of wine in the public water just to make it drinkable.. Therefore, the entire population would drink water that would have been fermented with a bit of wine for purification's sake. In no way would our Lord create and dispense an alcoholic drink (as we know it to be today) that would "intoxicate" a person. "Intoxicate" means "to poison" or "to be poisoned." In no way would our Lord poison any other soul. "Strong drink" has taken on an entirely new meaning today, where the likes of Annheiser and Busch and talking frogs represent an industry that is making profit while leading people to moral destruction. There are 55 Bible passages that speak of drinking, and NOT ONE OF THEM speaks of drinking in a positive light. Sure, you can mention 1 Tim. 5:23 in a defense for drinking. But my response to you would be: Are YOU Timothy? Also, are YOU taking wine for medicinal purposes only? Paul had to tell Timothy to "use a little wine", since it was obvious that Timothy was completely abstaining from wine at the time, and the water that Timothy was drinking was not pure enough to help cure him of his illness. Blessings to you, Makarios |
