Bible Question: what do you think of the idea of selling items e.g hotdogs, cake e.t.c for, for instance, youth fund-raising in the church building. is this not what Jesus rebuked against in the temple where he found people selling their merchandise? |
Bible Answer: Hello fungie There is a difference between the temple and church buildings. The temple (and tablernacle before that) was God's residence. His continuous presence required the utmost holiness in all things, inside and out. A church building is just a building. God does not dwell there, rather He dwells in the believers. Buildings are not even required to have a church. Therefore, one could use the building for whatever moral, legal, ethical purpose you desire. On the other hand, I have a dislike for fund-raisers for the Lord's work based on 3 John 7 "accepting nothing from the Gentiles." But that's a preference issue. You do as you please. Steve |
