Bible Question:
In John's Gospel, Jesus is shown hear purifying the temple in the early part of his ministry. Matthew, Mark, and Luke give an account of this near the end of his ministry. How do you account for this? Did Jesus purify the temple twice? I'll bet that I've read the NT 20 times or more and have never noticed it till now. Thanks! Huron |
Bible Answer: Hi Huron, A comparison verse for looking at the temple could be Mark 1:23 and John 2:19. The temple of God is holy and we too should be holy. John 2:19, "Jesus answered and said to them, "DESTROY this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." 20 The Jews therefore said, "It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will (You) raise it up in three days?" 21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body." Mark 1:24, "...Have You come to DESTROY us?" Jesus wants to build us up with His words of spirit and life, but the important thing is that God is glorified. From the heart, Ray |
