Subject: Jesus and the "good" theif at the |
Bible Note: Howdy John, I use the KJV Companion Study Bible. I don't know wether we immediately go to either the "good or bad place". I can't find any scripture that lends credence to the "immediately" but I am currently looking for anything as I am looking into soul sleep, etc. but I digress. When the Lord tells a story such as the Abraham story I typically believe that these are not to be taken literally. I believe that Lazarus was in Heaven and the rich man was in Hell. I do not think that we will actually be able to see those in Hell while in Heaven. This was merely a story used to prove a point like any parable would be. Back to the thief. I think that 1 Peter 3:18-20 speaks of Christ going to proclaim his victory to the spirits, maybe ones that were fallen angels from when Satan was cast out of heaven and they were locked in the Abyss. But my point is not where the thief went at the time, which I believe to be Heaven, but that Jesus claimed in John on the day of the resurrection that he had not yet ascended to his Father. I think this means that Jesus did not go to Heaven during this time and thusly would not have seen the thief "today". The way my Bible presents it allows the thief go to Heaven, without contradicting the verse in John, by saying "today" is taken out of context. |
