Subject: What is truth? |
Bible Note: "Philosophers and poets have long asked this great question. Even Pontius Pilate asked it with sarcasm (John 18:38). Some people say, 'All truth is relative. What’s true for you may not be true for me. Nothing is absolute. You make your own truth.' This is called Relativism, Situation Ethics or Values Clarification. Others say, 'Truth is absolute. Everything is black or white. Why? They just are that way, that’s all.' Both of these ideas are wrong. "What is truth? God. God Himself is the ultimate Truth. He is 'the God of Truth' (Isaiah 65:6). Jesus said, 'I am the Truth' (John 14:6). 'The Spirit is Truth' (I John 5:6). God is the only absolute truth, and things are true only insofar as they rightly relate to God. God alone determines what is true. Two plus two equals four, because God made it so. Murder is wrong, because God says it is wrong. "We know the truth of God from the Bible. Jesus said, 'Thy Word is Truth' (John 17:17). It is infallible and inerrant. If something contradicts the Bible, it is necessarily false. That is why we need to study the Bible to know what is truth." --Curt Daniel |
