Bible Question:
Is it really possible for people to love one another as Jesus did (and still does)? If I may think out loud for a moment to help shed light on what I am asking. It seems to me that if Jesus commands this, it should follow that he thinks we are capable. And yet I can not point to a single instance of love that comes close to the love of Jesus. I mean he willingly went to the cross to save me. If someone has an example of this commandments fulfillment please let me know. As far as I know I love my wife, but I find it hard to do the dishes for her, much less go to the cross for her. And that is my WIFE, not just someone I meet on the street. I know at this moment how much I love, and it doesn’t compare to Jesus. Will I ever be able? Now I recognize that before we can love anything we must love God. For God is the source of love and without him...well do I even need to finish that? So I restate, Can I love anyone as much as Jesus loves me? Can I fulfill this commandment? If the answer be yes, then what must I do? If the answer be no, then how close can I get? If Jesus' love can be measured as being a big as his body, can the love I have for anyone be as big as a mustard seed, bigger? Thank you in advance. For what it is worth I love you. God bless and peace be with you. Philip |
Bible Answer: Yes we can, but not without the Jesus Himself.Romans 8:14 says , because those who are led by the spirit of God are sons of God.Also the more you set your mind on things of God , the less the things of the world will mean to you and at the same time if you are in constant true fellowship, praise, worship, dependance on God,and espicially daily reading His Word, He will make Himself real to you.He will be as real to you as you are to Him.When you find yourself sincerly seeking the Lord with ALL your being, thats when things change.I know, I was saved and luke warm for 9 years wondering why God wasn't real to me while I was doing whatever I wanted. Now I am on fire and don't want it any other way.It is hard work , but so much worth it.I am very much struggling with tring to love people that I don't want to at work. They seem like barbarians to me , but Jesus reminds us that He came to heal the sick and not the well.I liken my struggle with Jonah and not wanting to go to Ninivah.Jonah didn't necessarally have God's love , he just obeyed God.God still had to show him what the people meant to Him.Again ,set your sights on things above and you will atain them. The answer is yes,we can do all things in Christ Jesus.Read philippians4:8-9 4:13 |
