AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 13:33 "Little children, I am with you [only] a little longer. You will look for Me and, as I told the Jews, so I tell you now, 'Where I am going, you are not able to come.' [John 8:21] |
Bible Question:
John 7:33 Therefore Jesus said, "For a little while longer I am with you, then I go to Him who sent Me." Obviously, where Jesus was going was God our Father. Then, in John 13:33, why did He say, "Where I am going, you cannot come?" That means we cannot come to God. Does death or the rapture bring believers to God the Father immediately? Don't we say in a funeral the dead person is with the Lord now? What did Jesus mean when saying we cannot come where He went? |
Bible Answer: You stopped reading too soon. John 13:31-36 (NASB) 31 Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus *said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him; 32 if God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately. 33 "Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, 'Where I am going, you cannot come.' 34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." 36 Simon Peter *said to Him, "Lord, where are You going?" Jesus answered, "Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later." In verse 33 Jesus said to the Jews they can not come. Why because they weren’t yet in Christ, however in Verse 36 Jesus said to Peter you can’t follow me NOW but you will later. Paul tells us in 2 Cor. 5:6-8 that while we are in the body we are absent from the Lord but once we are absent from the body (dead) we who are in Christ will be present with Him I Heaven. |
