Bible Question:
Is Jesus just the vehicle and not to be prayed to? My Question has to do with Matt. 6:5-15 "The Lord's Prayer". These words are from Christ Jesus himself telling us to pray like this....Our Father in heaven... My Question is: Is he specifically telling us that when we pray at any given time that we should be praying to "The Father" alone and NOT to Jesus. Not giving glory to Jesus by praying to him. Example being in Luke: 8:49-51 "I am not possessed by a demaon," said Jesus, "but I honor my Father and you dishonor me. I am not seekinf glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge. I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my work he will never see death." When people pray, "Lord Jesus", are they praying directly to Jesus therefore giving him glory and not the Father, or is it just a title and entry into the thanksgiving and requests? Jesus also says that I am the way the truth and the life. So he is telling us to follow his examples. In this he always turns to the father when he prays. So, should we be only addressing the Father and not Jesus himself? |
Bible Answer: Hi, ForeverJoyful! Jesus gave us an example on how to pray (Our Father...); He never stated "pray this prayer only!" Following are four Scripture passages that have excellent afinity to your query: Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust in God, trust also in me. (John 14:1) In John 14:1 Jesus lets Israel know that they can come to Him as to the Father--this also pertains to us and our prayers and requests! When that day comes you will ask in my name; and I do not say that I shall pray to the Father for you, because the Father himself loves you for loving me, and believing that I came from God. (John 16:26-27) In John 16:26-27 Jesus further explains the relationship between Himself and the Father: though we only have access to the Father through Him, that Father is aware of our Faith in Jesus and consequently His Love for us knows no bounds... so what we ask in Jesus' name, according to God's Will, the Father will grant us! Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. A large quantity of incence was given to him to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar that stood in front of the throne. (Revelation 8:3) Revelation 8:3 depicts a little window into the Heavenly affairs... the prayers of all the saints are presented to God on a golden altar in front of God's throne... Then the angel showed me the river of life, rising from the throne of God and of the Lamb and flowing crystal-clear. (Revelation 22:1) Revelation 22:1 tells us that the Throne is shared by the Father (God) and the Son (the Lamb)... our prayer to God, be they directed to the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit are received at the altar located in front of the throne of God and of the Lamb--the Father and the Son are inseparable--in God there's no division; when we pray we honor the Father in the Son or the Son in the Father... and by honoring either the Father or the Son we honor the Holy Spirit! And lets not forget that it is the Holy Sprit who truly prays for us as we need His Divine Providence: And as well as this, the Spirit too comes to help us in our weakness, for, when we do not know how to pray properly, then the Spirit personally makes our petitions for us in groans that cannot be put into words; and he who can see into all hearts knows what the Spirit means because the prayer that the Spirit makes for God's holy people are always in accordance with the mind of God. (Romans 8:26-27) God Bless! Angel |
