Bible Question: genesis1:26 god said let us make man in our imange ( who is us)is there notonly one God? |
Bible Answer: Genesis 1:26 is among the earliest texts that refer to the triunity of God. But even in Genesis 1:2 we read that the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) was present at creation "hovering over the face of the waters." And John 1:3 shows that Jesus Christ was involved in creation, as do Col. 1:16,17 and Heb. 1:2. Thus, Genesis 1:26 definitely does not teach polytheism, but attests to the Trinity, the triune nature of God, being one God in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Pagans have falsely accused Christians of believing in polytheism (more than one god). But this is because many pagans do not understand the basic biblical teaching of the triunity of God. --Hank |
