AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 1:12 But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name-- [Is 56:5] |
Bible Question: I heard a statement that startled me about being heirs of God. They said that if we become heirs of God, then we are able to have all that He has...so, if we have all that He has, we should be like Him...like God. I told them that this only means that we have the right to be with Him in Heaven, but they said that isn't how it is spelled out in the bible. What do you folks think? |
Bible Answer: Dear D.D.1961, my eternal sister and fellow heir in Christ, Yes we are heirs of God, His Word tells us we are, and His Word is the truth. Here is how I understand John 1:12-13: As Christians we believe in Christ Jesus. Therefore, we receive the gift of His Spirit, and become true Children of God. Not of flesh or blood, or the will of man, nor within the scope of any human achievement. But through the will of God we are adopted as children and brought into the Kingdom of God. This refers to us in our resurrection body,so what we will be then, we have never been, for we have not seen God, but when He reveals Himself to us, we shall be as He is, because we have received the presence of the Spirit which makes us true children of God and co-heirs with His Son Jesus Christ, who gave Himself freely as a ransom for our sins. see also Rom. 8:17 does this help?
