Bible Note: Greetings Robert! Like Lionheart, I am not sure what exactly has you stumped about this verse. The point is fairly simple. Now that Christ has died, we are no longer under the old covenant, but a new one (of which, the old was only a shadow - Heb. 10). Unlike the old covenant, where atonement had to be made yearly, Christ has died once for all (Heb. 10:2-12). Or, to put it like Paul does in Romans 8:3, "For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit." I hope this helps my friend! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
