Subject: What about "The Passion of the Christ"? |
Bible Note: I saw "The Passion of the Christ" a week ago, and have done much Biblical research since then, to find out how true this movie really IS to the Scriptures. So far, the one major flaw I see is the fact that the portrayal of Mary Magdalene (who is always stated in the Gospels as being with the mother of Jesus leading up to and at the foot of the cross) as the same woman who was caught in adultery (when Jesus drew the line in the sand). I see NO Scriptural basis for this connection between those two women. As far as seeing the movie in general, I would encourage believers and unbelievers alike to see it. It has impacted my life in an amazing way, and has renewed my own passion to share my faith more boldly. I would also encourage everyone to read "The Passion of Jesus Christ" by John Piper, which gives 50 Biblical statements of the purpose of why Christ had to die. I have been using this book as an evangelistic tool to give to people in my life who have or haven't seen the movie (seeing the movie is not necessary to understand the book). But I agree that seeing the movie should not be placed in any way as a "yard stick" of our maturity level or commitment to Christ. |
