Bible Note: Good observation.. Yes, I do not believe that the Lord "kept" them from recognizing Him, its just that they were shaken up and did not realize that it was Him. Nelson's NKJV Study Bible puts it this way, "24:11.. Skepticism reigned among the disciples. It is clear that they did not expect a resurrection." And 24:24, "As far as the disciples were concerned, there was no decisive proof of Jesus' resurrection. They wanted to see the resurrected Jesus. Thomas was not alone in his doubts (see John 20:25)".. So this 'proof' that they needed was not revealed to them until Jesus made it obvious to them that He rose from the dead indeed! |
