Bible Note: IMHO: The primary context of the question (which you only indirectly provided an answer to BTW) was salvation. As far as I recall, every example we have follows the order of; 1.) believe 2.) be baptised. Granted we should always consider the whole of scripture to determine our best understanding of a subject. But it goes without saying that the thief was not baptised in water (unless it rained like it did in the movie Ben Hur)and therefore by this verse alone (and because we'd have a serious contradiction otherwise) we can say it is not necessary. Consider also the ethiopian eunuch... It was he who suggested baptism, not philip. Again I assume from the record. Even though we have Jesus saying to believe and be baptised (mk 16:16) right after he says "if you don't believe you are condemned" not, if you don't believe AND are not baptised. Please next time, maybe you should just answer the questioner. Again IMHO. |
