Bible Question:
For the Church there is unity in Christ - this alliance is different? What united Herod and Pilate? What motivated each man's rejection of Jesus? How might this be useful to us as we "witness" to others? Country Girl, you noted that Pilate "tried his best" yet what was the result? What might this suggest to us about our efforts? |
Bible Answer: Mommapbs The unity is the church should be one of commonality of belief and service accompanied with brotherly love. The unity between Herod and Pilate was one of each seeking his own best interest. In other words both thought the means was justified by the expected end. Unbelief ultimately, we can look at their earthly motivates but the fact remains neither really believed Jesus was God. If they had I think history would have recorded different action on their part. Unbelief is what we deal with in every unbeliever we meet. They have to be shown the love of Jesus by us, in us and through us. Pilate did not try his best! He tried to find the path of least resistance. His wife said stay out of this, the Jews wanted Jesus’ death and Rome wanted peace. The path of least resistance was give the Jews what they wanted assuring peace for a while longer. Many times that is how we live we seek the path of least resistance. “Don’t Make Waves” is our credo. However God call us to stand up and be counted and that is exactly what is wrong with the church today, too many don’t want to be counted. We languish in apathy not making waves as the world spins it merry way to hell. In our prayers we cry out God look what they are doing, and God calls back what are you doing? Your neither hot nor cold, your lamp is hidden and your salt is tasteless. EdB |
