NASB | Luke 18:19 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 18:19 Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is [essentially and morally] good except God alone. |
Bible Question: Why is it that Jesus did not want to be called good? Is He here distinguishing Himself from God? |
Bible Answer: Is Jesus here distinguishing Himself from God? Quite the contrary. His reply could be interpreted to mean, "Since no one is good except God and since you call me good, you must be calling me God." . . . Note that I am not being dogmatic about this. I am saying that this is ONE logical interpretation based on the text and on what we know of Christ. I'm sure there are other, equally plausible, interpretations. |
