Bible Question:
On the first page of Genesis I found something very interesting. As folklore would have us believe, Adam and Eve were the first two people that GOD created. However I found something that was a little misleading. Will you all read Genesis 26 (first page) and help me figure out who "Us" is? In the passage it reads: "The GOD said "Let us make man in our image , in our likeness" ie.... I am really stumped, because I cannot think of anything that makes sense. All-Cing-I |
Bible Answer: First, I would like to respond to your comment that "folklore would have us believe". The Bible says 2Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 2 Tim 3:17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. The word for inspired in the original Greek means God breathed. Literally meaning the words are God's words. The human writers were in effect taking dictation from God. The thing that you said really stumped you is a very interesting point, but not to complex when you consider that the Hebrew name used here is Elohim which indicates a plural. Christians throughout church history have believed in one God who exists in three persons. These three are God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They operate as a single entity. This was the issue that many of the Jewish religious leaders had with Jesus. He pronounced Himself to be God. You can see this in John 1:1-3 and vs 14. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, the same was in the beginning with God......The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Also, in the Gospel accounts of the baptism of Jesus, you see the Father speaking from heaven, the Holy Spirit descending like a dove and the Son (Jesus) standing in the river. Jesus consistantly claimed to be the same as His Father in heaven. Those who claim He was just a good man are denying what He said about Himself. If he wasn't who He said He was then He was lying and was not a good man. Yet, all who have taken the time to honestly consider Jesus, His life and the life and death of those who followed Him come to the conclusion that He was in fact who He claimed to be. God. As a matter of fact over 500 eye-witnesses saw Him assend to heaven after His resurrection. You can read of these witnesses in 1Corinthians15:1-9. |
