AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 16:9 "And I tell you [learn from this], make friends for yourselves [for eternity] by means of the wealth of unrighteousness [that is, use material resources as a way to further the work of God], so that when it runs out, they will welcome you into the eternal dwellings. |
Bible Question: What does Luke 16:9 mean? |
Bible Answer: Dear Seedling, It means to show mercy to the poor with our worldly goods (Luke 14:13-14) in order that what we give in righteousness will yield to our benefit (Luke 6:38) and God's glory when we are judged (2 Corinthians 5:10). (cf Matthew 25:34-40) Note that this is a command pertinent only to believers. There is nothing here in which the lost can gain merit toward salvation, nor the saved gain greater favor with God.
