Bible Question:
I have been confronted lately with a couple of Christians who believe in loss of salvation. I haven't yet had more in depth conversations with these people to find out where they have this understanding from the Bible. Some verses vaguely used were Mathew 7:16, and the reasoning used was, this person was showing all the fruits of someone who was saved yet further on in their life turned and rejected Christ and blasphemed the Holy Spirit. Their argument being that after salvation a loving God still lets you choose. Second area that some have pointed to is in Hebrews 6. Do you believe this also and if so what verses do you use for your understanding. Or do you not believe you can loose your salvation and on what verses do you have for this understanding. Thanking you for your help in this matter. |
Bible Answer: There are many other scriptures that bear this out but none that say it so plainly as Rev. 3:4-6, that he that overcomes I will not blot his name out of the book of life. For Jesus to say this means if we do not overcome sin there is a possibilty for our names to be removed from the book of life. Why would he have said this if it were not so? Look also @ matt 25 @ the foolish virgins, they were virgins but they were not ready and were rejected. Next passage v. 14 and on the unwise steward with his talent, he did nothing with it. He did not obey his master and in v. 30 was cast into outer darkness where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. So we do see and not vaguely so that it is possible to have tasted of the heavenly gift and of the life to come to afterward to be cast from Gods' presence. i pray this has shed some light on a very confusing and contraversial doctrine. in Christ Rev-J.P.Epps |
