Bible Question:
Around a month ago, I had an atheist ask me a good question that I didn't know the answer to. He asked why a loving God would allow millions of children to die of world hunger. I tried telling him a few guesses I had and told him not to focus on what God doesn't do, but try focussing on what he does do. Today, I was reading in Luke chapter 12. When I got to verse 24, the question returned to my mind. In this verse, Jesus talks about how God even provides for the ravens and then says we are more valuable than birds. It almost sounds like a promise of provision. Why then does God not provide for the millions who are starving to death? |
Bible Answer: Your answer was the best that you could give on this subject. God has allowed satan to have power over man as a test, read Job. In Luke 10:18 we read: "And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." and another verse in Revelation 12:7 "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,...12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time." Read the whole chapter of Revelation 12. The dragon is satan and the woman is the church good and bad. God cast satan to earth and gave him power as evidenced by the book of Job. Whether God "allows" world hunger is quite a stretch for me. He allowed the devil to come to earth to tempt man in order that man might be made stronger in Christ as we pray for strength to overcome the wiles of the foe. So I believe the devil is doing all he can to win souls for his kingdom too, including world hunger. AAMOF God doesn't allow these things, sin causes them. |
