Bible Question:
Around a month ago, I had an atheist ask me a good question that I didn't know the answer to. He asked why a loving God would allow millions of children to die of world hunger. I tried telling him a few guesses I had and told him not to focus on what God doesn't do, but try focussing on what he does do. Today, I was reading in Luke chapter 12. When I got to verse 24, the question returned to my mind. In this verse, Jesus talks about how God even provides for the ravens and then says we are more valuable than birds. It almost sounds like a promise of provision. Why then does God not provide for the millions who are starving to death? |
Bible Answer: Hi, nathan... I always find this sort of question curious. Did you know that Cuba has eight growing seasons; that it alone could provide all of the food necessary for North American's? Did you know that India is so fertile, that it could feed the world? Why don't these countries provide all the food that they could? Because of human choice. Shall we ask that God intervene in human choice, forcing them to make use of their resources properly? Your friend doesn't really want an answer -- he wants an excuse. The only atheist that I ever heard give a truly honest explanation for their atheism was a friend of mine. He told me that he didn't believe in God because if he did, then God might obligate him to some sort of obedience. Atheism is never a matter of seeking the truth; rather it always a matter of rejecting morality (Romans 1:18-21). In Him, Doc |
