AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 12:10 "And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit [that is, whoever intentionally discredits the Holy Spirit by attributing the authenticating miracles done by Me to Satan], it will not be forgiven him [for him there is no forgiveness]. [Matt 12:31; Mark 3:28-30] |
Bible Question: What is blasheming the Holy Spirit and why is it unforgivable? |
Bible Answer: It is a continuous thing ('blasphemes' - in Plural): something you keep doing against the Holy Spirit. It is to keep rejecting God's Spirit. That's why you can be forgiven for a word against the Son, because you can come back to him afterwards. But if you're always refusing and speaking against the Holy Spirit then you never repent and ask for forgiveness, so are never forgiven. Basically anyone who sincerely asks for forgiveness from God, is lovingly given it; the only ones who aren't forgiven are those who don't want it. Therefore, if a person is really worried that they have done this unforgiveable sin, then you can be sure that they haven't, because the fact that they care shows they want to be with God and so already have his forgiveness!!! |
