Subject: Destroyed or Defeated? |
Bible Note: Greetings C Margengo! Thanks for the response my friend! Yet, again I agree that Satan is a defeated enemy. But, Scritpure stills warns us of his dangerers even still. To touch upon your analogies, the church should be moving forward in battle. However, what happens if she doesn't? You mentioned that there is no armour on the backside. What happens if a believer turns around? :-) You mentioned battles in the OT. Remember what happened to Joshua when Moses dropped his hands? Here are just a few verses that indicate that even Christians can get into trouble with Satan if they are not marching forward all the time. Eph. 4:27 - "and do not give the devil a foothold." If we are commanded to 'not give' the devil a foothold, then it most be 'possible' for him to get a foothold. Eph. 6:11 - "Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." Putting on the full armor allows us to stand against the devil's schemes. But, what if a believer does not put on the full armor? 1 Tim. 3:7 - "He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap." How many ministries has satan ruined by leading believers into traps? James 4:7 - "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." If we resist, he will flee. But, what if we don't resist? 1 Pet. 5:8 - "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings." Again, if we resist and stand firm, he will flee. But, these commands require us to do something. If we don't, we give satan an opportunity that he could not have otherwise. Rev. 2:10 - "Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life." This verse tells us clear that at some point in the future, Satan will be behind the persecution of Christians. Of course, we know what his ultimate destiny is in the end. I agree with much of what you have said about satan, but I disagree that he is no longer a threat. As long as we are 'in Christ', we have nothing to fear personally. But, satan can and will use others to attack us. We will suffer persecution, and perhaps even death. So, we must not suppose that satan is no threat at all. Just out of curiosity my friend, are you a proponent of 'dominion' theology? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
