NASB | Mark 6:3 "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 6:3 "Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are His sisters not here with us?" And they were [deeply] offended by Him [and their disapproval blinded them to the fact that He was anointed by God as the Messiah]. |
Bible Question:
Is being called the Son of Mary evidence of questioning his birth? Should Jesus be called the son of Joeseph??? |
Bible Answer: Hi richbee, I don't know if you are interested in the forum or your question any longer, but I would like to speak to it.***** Luke 2:7, NASB, "And she gave birth to her first-born son;... NKJ, "And she gave brought forth her firstborn Son,..." Green's Interlinear, "And she bore her son, the First-born,..." ***** Luke 2:25, NASB, "And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him." NKJ, ..."waiting for the Consolation of Israel."****** From Simeon's viewpoint we have to decide between the NASB and the NKJ whether this is the "child Jesus" or the "Child Jesus". To my mind, the consolation and the spirit have to be added into the mix for consideration.****** But in answering your question I would say that being called the Son of Mary would not question his [sic] birth especially since there were brothers involved. But whether Son of Mary or First-born is chosen by readers of Scripture, it must be determined that He was truly God and truly human.***** Should Jesus be called the son of Joseph? No, I don't believe that He should. We know that Joseph was not the father. But Jesus was the Son of Joseph in the same sense that He was the Son of David and the Son of Abraham. He is their God, the only true God in the flesh.***** From the heart, Ray |
