Subject: seed vs. seeds |
Bible Note: Greetings Mark! Excellent post my friend! There is on difference in the text that you highlight. You are correct that the word 'seed' does not appear in vv, 6-8. Rather, the near demonstrative pronoun 'allos' is used to refer to the seed. The difference is this: in vv. 6-7, the singular form of 'allos' is used, but in v. 8, the plural form is used. Interestingly, the same verb form (Aorist, Active, 3rd, Singular) is still used. If I remember correctly (my grammar is at my office), neuter plural nouns can take a singular verb. As for the significance of this difference, I would simply say that the fruitful seed was many. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
