Bible Question: Does anyone have any insight as to why Jesus changed the names of some of His disciples? |
Bible Answer: Greetings ren333! As to WHY Jesus changed the names of some of His disciples, that is a good question! The only answer that I can begin to touch upon would be that a change in their names represented a change in their "identities", an ending of their old way of living and an introduction to their new way of living, symbolized by the name. However, we have noticed that He only changed the names of a few of them, not all of them. Perhaps He had chosen these few for special and specific "callings" that were designed only for these few to carry out (For example, Saul to Paul in Acts 9, and for the significance of this 'name change': Acts 9:15). I hope this helps! :) Your Brother in Christ, Nolan |
