Bible Question: Does anyone have any insight as to why Jesus changed the names of some of His disciples? |
Bible Answer: ren333, Simon's name was changed to Peter (Matt 10:23, Mark 3:16, Luke 6:13), the only name the Bible says He changed ... Bartholomew must be Nathanel (John 1:45), Levi (Mark 2:14) and Matthew are the same man, Thaddeeus in Mark's list in Judas, son of James in the others. The latter three may not of had a name change ... but, when someone changes your name, they do have the authority to do it and they want a name that fits you. Names are supposed to describe something about you. That is why He changed Simon's name; Peter (rock) fit better. Hope this is what you were looking for, Steve |
