Subject: What about a passage not in early ms? |
Bible Note: Greetings Radioman! I see that Searcher already explained his comment, but might I add some thoughts. There are several criteria which affect the reliability of a particular manuscript. These would include, in no particular order: 1) Age of the manuscript 2) Location of the manuscript. 3) Skill of the copyist. 4) Completeness (is all of the copy still there or not). The biggest mistake made early on was to simply assume that manuscript readings should simply be counted. But, it was later discovered that the largest number of manuscripts were of a latter date and a lower quality than the minority of manuscripts. This whole area is a fascinating study.
