Bible Question: why did jesus think God had forsaken him |
Bible Answer: Minister May, when Jesus said, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?", He was quoting Psalm 22:1, a messianic Psalm, in order to tell us who He was and the nature of His sacrifice. It is not a statement of abandonment by God, but of redemption by God. Read the Psalm in context: "For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard." (Psa 22:24) Colin |
