Subject: Is Mark 16:42 a failed prophecy? Help me |
Bible Note: Greetings Jon! The number of the verb is very important for a couple of reasons. First of all, your first premise was the Jesus was specifically addressing the High Priest, which He wasn't. The plural verb makes that clear. This isn't a matter of interpretation, but of grammar. Secondly, your contention is that this is a prophecy addressed to the High Priest (and perhaps those around him at the time), but the passage is a direct quote of two Old Testament passages. Using your logic, anytime an Old Testament passage is quoted, it then becomes a new prophecy specifically addressed to the person to whom the passage is being quoted! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
