Bible Question:
Mark 10:17 As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 18 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. How can Jesus, who even refuses to be called "good" could have allowed any one to worship him? Did not Jesus himself pray more than a dozen times to God, according to the Gospels? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Isa! If I might add one small point to Nolan's response, Jesus was using a little "tongue in check" in His response to the man. The Jews believed that only God was good. Yet, here was this man calling Jesus good! Jesus was God, so that was okay. However, the man didn't realize it. So, Jesus said, "Why are you calling me good, since no one but God is good?" (Paraphrase.) So, this verse is actually an implied reference to the Deity of Christ. In Christ, Tim Moran |
