NASB | Matthew 9:17 "Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 9:17 "Nor is new wine put into old wineskins [that have lost their elasticity]; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the [fermenting] wine spills and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, so both are preserved." |
Bible Question: Hows this context related to fasting and the the same with wineskins? |
Bible Answer: "Hows this context related to fasting.." It is my understanding that Jesus is speaking of the Old and New Covenant. "and the the same with wineskins?" When wine was stored to ferment in wineskins, they swelled, thus weakening the skins and making them useless for new wine. The weakened skins would break under the pressure of the new wine fermenting. Here again Christ is refering to the passing away of the Old Covenant and the New Covenant to come. See Hebrews 8 and Jeremiah 31 God bless |
