NASB | Matthew 9:17 "Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 9:17 "Nor is new wine put into old wineskins [that have lost their elasticity]; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the [fermenting] wine spills and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, so both are preserved." |
Bible Question (short): Does "oenus" mean wine or juice? |
Question (full): In the New Testament, does the word wine really mean "juice"? Because I've checked most of the passages in the N.T. (including the marriage at Cana) and have found the word "oenus" every single time. I'm no scholar, so I would like to know if the word "oenus" either always means wine or means either wine or juice. Any help is welcome. Vobis gratias. |
