Bible Question:  Hello,I was a little puzzled after I read about another miracle Jesus had performed by casting the demons into the pigs. My question is why did the people want him to leave the region? Surely they recognize His power and now that this is a man if God.Right /Wrong? Thank You for enlightening me.

Bible Answer:  It seems that Jesus gets a bad rap in this story that He doesn't deserve. The demons caused the destruction of the pigs, not Jesus. The demons requested to be sent into the pigs when ordered out of the men. The pigs panicked at the presence of the demons and bolted. This led to their panicked run into the sea. The response of the people requesting that Jesus leave, is probably similar to Peter's response to the large catch of fish in Luke 5:8. Peter fell at Jesus' feet and said, "depart from from me for I am a sinful man." In the light of Jesus' power and holiness, Peter saw his own sinful condition. This is probably what bothered the people of this region. Their own sinfulness in the light of Jesus' power and holiness.
