Bible Question: what is the difference between the strait gate the straight gate? |
Bible Answer: Renee: There is no "straight" gate mentioned in Matthew 7:13,14. The contrast is not therefore between a "straight" and a "strait" gate, but between a strait (meaning narrow) gate and a broad one. ...... Language note: "Strait" used as an adjective meaning narrow, as it is in this passage from the King James Bible, is now archaic. --Hank |
