Bible Question: I am new to this forum and not exactly sure where to start or even if I am suposed to stick to a specific topic so if this is too much info please understand and I am sorry. I have been in a relationship for 8 years, we have two children and no we are not married. I do realize that we should have been married but the relationship has some serious strains involving his prior drug use and verbal abuse. Every time things get good and we plan to marry, things turn for the worse and everytime worse than before. I need some scipture to stand on to find out if I should be working at this to make it work for the kids and our family or if I need to move forward in my walk with Christ without him. He has just relapsed and is in jail as of yesterday. I need to figure out if once he is out I give yet another chance or stand strong with not going through or putting my children through all of this again. I cannot find any scripture to aid me in my decision making or to bring me closer to the way God would want me to go on this. I am not asking for advise but something to help clarify my choice. |
Bible Answer: - God's day to you, MomFirst, and welcome to the SBF, First, the SBF is not the best place to get/ give advice (tho you don't ask for it). While some may be qualified, it is best for you and your man to go see wise Christian counsel ... face-to-face. Start with your pastor. Many mistranslate 1 Thessalonians 5:22, using KJV "abstain from every appearance of evil" to say you two need to part company, until you are legally married. Nonetheless, I think 2 Corinthians 8:21, supports the idea of one moving out ... it says we need to do what is honorable, in His sight and the world (cf Mat 5:16, Php 4:8, 1Pe 2:12) ... read the context. Thre are some who use "If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged” … is forced to marry her, unless her father says no (Exo 22:16-17). Ask your counsellor how your children should be included. I make these points becuase you two need to select wise Christian counsel - and I think these are some of the verses (and context). Based on recent thread, most people think one is not married until it is consummated, after the "I dos". Searcher |
