AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 5:39 "But I say to you, do not resist an evil person [who insults you or violates your rights]; but whoever slaps you on the right cheek, turn the other toward him also [simply ignore insignificant insults or trivial losses and do not bother to retaliate--maintain your dignity, your self-respect, your poise]. Subject: Mt. 5:39, Striking the 'right' cheek |
Bible Note: Greetings Pastor! Great comments! May I add a point that I forgot to include in my original post? This whole passage deals with retribution. Each example is an example of someone doing something which is illegal and for which one could take legal action against them. So, by turning the other cheek, you were passing up on the legal opportunity to get even. This seems to be the whole point of the passage. We, as Christians, must not get even, but respond with a loving and submissive attitude towards those who mistreat us. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
