Subject: where is it? |
Bible Note: Searcher, you do good work. No criticism or fault-finding is intended here -- merely clarification. Matthew 5:38 is a direct quote of Exodus 21:24. "Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot," Exodus 21:24 (KJV) In the NASB "Small Caps in the NT are used in the text to indicate OT quotations or obvious allusions to OT texts . . . Variations of OT wording are found in NT citations . . ." (from Explanation Of General Format Of The New American Standard Bible). Often the NT writers did paraphrase the material. Note: when they did paraphrase, they did it under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. (I know that you know this, Steve. But apparently not everyone who posts to the forum knows, understands or believes this. It is for the benefit of those people that I point this out.) Grace to you, kalos :-) |
