Bible Question:
I am studying with a non-Christian who is interested in what the Bible has to say about honesty, integrity, liars, etc... but I can not think of any stories or parables that specifically address the issue. I have done several concordance searches on the aforementioned words, and have some verses, but I was wondering if anyone knew of specific stories told regarding the subject of honesty/lying... Thanks! |
Bible Answer: I cannot say I know a parable on the issue, but Jesus said in Matthew 5:34-37: "But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not take an oath by you head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil." Paul explains this a little in James 5:12: "But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by anyother oath, but let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation." Sorry I could not help find a parable, but I do hope that this helps. Brother in Christ, Rex |
