AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 5:32 but I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except on grounds of sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who has been divorced commits adultery. [Deut 24:1-4; Luke 16:18] |
Bible Question: I divorced my husband and a year later remarried. My ex husband was not at fault. I have now rededicated my life to God. In Matthew 5 it says if I remarry I am committing adultery and so is my new husband. Am I forgiven now or is all lost and I am going to hell? My ex husband is now remarried also. |
Bible Answer: truly what god has joined should not be divided; however, that division is already in place. the law states that it would be an abomination to now go back to your first husband. although it could be debated that we are not under law, i think there is at least some moral consideration here. deut 24:4 her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the LORD But on your question of hell, remember most books in the new testament were written by a man who killed followers of christ. even after he repented the results of his previous actions were still there (and i would say they were worse results that we could even imagine). yet he lived by faith in the son of god who loved him and gave his life for him. imitate him as he imitated christ. blessings, allen |
