NASB | Matthew 5:32 but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 5:32 but I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except on grounds of sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who has been divorced commits adultery. [Deut 24:1-4; Luke 16:18] |
Bible Question: In Matt 5:32 whoever marries the unlawfully divorced woman (or man) commits adultery. But in 1 Cor 7:15 the unlawfully divorced may marry again. How do we decide which rule to follow when 2 believers are involved, with neither acting in a biblical fashion? for example: one may leave but the other critisized her into leaving. |
Bible Answer: There are pastors on this forum that are better able to answer this than I am. However, 1 Corinthians 7 discusses situations where one of the spouses is a believer and the other is not. This is nothing more than an opinion: I tend to think that a believer ought not divorce under any circumstances, forgiving even adultery, since God has forgiven us of so much. |
