Bible Note: Greetings MJH! Thanks! I'll check these out! I certainly agree that a knowledge of the 'times' can be helpful, or at times, even essential. :-) My only concern is that sometimes these 'idioms' get repeated over and over on the internet as fact, when there may be very little evidence for them. Several things can occur: 1) An idiom can be totally unhistorical or false. 2) An idiom may have developed later than the writing of Scripture. 3) An idiom may have deveoloped earlier than the writing of Scripture. 4) An idiom may have been current, but the Scripture writer simply didn't use it. When I did a search on the internet concerning this particular idiom, I found lots of sites citing it. However, I didn't find any actually giving historical evidence for it. Now, I'm not saying that there isn't any evidence for it! :-) I'm just saying that none of the sites that I saw provided any! I will certainly check into the resources you provided.
